What is neurobloc?

Neurobloc is a medicine used to treat cervical dystonia in adults. Cervical dystonia, also known as torticollis, is a disorder when the neck muscles contract, causing abnormal movement and twisting of the neck and unusual positioning of the head. NeuroBloc contains the active substance botulinum toxin type B.

Difference between botulinum toxin type A and type B?

Background: Botulinum toxin types A and B can improve the appearance of facial wrinkles. Results: Botulinum toxin type B had a slightly faster onset of action than type A. All patients respond to type B quickly, whereas some had a delayed response to type A.

Is botulinum toxin A protein?

Toxin (BoNT) is a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum and related species. It prevents the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine from axon endings at the neuromuscular junction, thus causing flaccid paralysis. The toxin causes the disease botulism.

What are botulinum toxins?

Botulinum toxin, also called “miracle poison”, is one of the most poisonous biological substances known. It is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, an anaerobic, gram-positive, spore-forming rod commonly found on plants, in soil, water, and animals’ intestinal tracts.

Neurobloc became available in the U.K. in 2001. Its alternative name is Clostridium botulinum type – B neurotoxin complex, and it is manufactured from purifying type – B neurotoxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum.

Neurobloc works by temporarily preventing the release of acetylcholine from sympathetic nerve terminals. It should be administered by trained members of the medical profession only and is used to treat cervical dystonia.

The following should avoid using NeuroBloc:

Individuals with a known hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation.

For those who have to generalize disorders of muscle activity (e.g. myasthenia gravis).

Patients where aminoglycoside antibiotics or spectinomycin are already being used or are likely to be used.

Patients who have bleeding disorders of any type.

Pregnant or lactating women.
